Everything has gone wrong this week, from Godaddy.com double-charging my bank account and overdrawing it by ~140 dollars to computer crashes, dead wireless networks, missing books that are worth 80 bucks, the dog destroying my main set of speakers, and
Well there's more but I don't want to spend an hour writing this! New speakers coming in for my PC (from the destroyed ones), Logitech Z-2300s. I hear they're pretty nice. Plus, I'm getting a wireless Wii sensor bar from Nextronics, since it has the option to plug into a wall socket. This will be nice since I have a projector and it's difficult to position the Wii close enough to where the sensor bar is far away enough from it (and close enough to the screen). The only issue is that it's been a week and a half since I ordered the sensor bar, and it STILL isn't here. Hopefully it will be here tomorrow, but I've given up on holding my breath.
In the realm of music, I haven't done anything since Famicompo. I don't feel like doing anything either.

An update? Yes, I'm just this bored.
As to the capitalization in this post, since I wrote so many papers near the end of last semester, it's almost easier not to write in all lowercase... so why not just keep it the way it is now?
Anyway, I guess since my last post I had a new release at 8bitpeoples, wrote a few other songs and entered some competition called Famicompo. Check them out...
Also, I've got to plug XOC's Kirby cover album over at xocmusic.com-- it kicks ass!

i'm working a lot with DPCM-bass now using triangle waves. basically this should let me use the triangle for leads and backup purposes.. maybe songs with full chords and bass? the DPCM actually sounds quite close to the triangle, and i've finally got a nice setup for it with mckcpp and textpad.
here is a demo

nevermind, i've been busy after all! got to work on two assignments plus a fun, fun test for tomorrow. music-wise, i've been doing a lot of starting of songs, but i haven't finished any of them (and it's unlikely a lot will be finished anyway).

5:05PM
been busy a lot lately, haven't written anything.
finally got the projector up in our dorm room and finished cleaning up the 1,000+ wires as well. finally i might get back to composing songs, but ut2004, half life 2: episode 1, mariokart, smash bros, a book called "hood," and classes are holding me back (as well as the occasional stargate sg-1 episode). at least i'm not as busy anymore!

well as opposed to what i was thinking, those images with "defective" autocad programs on them weren't defective at all - the lisencing server was screwing up.
however, this begs the question: "why did 3 of 10 computers work flawlessly?"
it's too bad i couldn't call anyone at 4:30 AM too!
it's all good now though. we'll get more done today, and since the images aren't bad, we're avoiding a massive amount of work!

UGHHGH after doing ten of these machines (which took much much longer than it should have), i try to run ADT2006/7 on one and whoops! the lisence doesn't work! WHY NOT??? i hate autodesk
anyway, trying to remedy the situation, but i'm kind of tired, and more BORED than anything. adt takes forever to reinstall-- 5 gigs over the network at 10MB/s :(

well! yesterday, i had thought i would take today off and come in at 5:00 or so to image the hard drives here at work. it's not an easy task.. or rather, it's easy, but it's time-consuming and meticulous. i have to image a disk, then stick it in, change bios settings since dells are dumb and don't automatically detect disks. then i have to change the PC's SID (for most files), and add to the domain, change a huge amount of settings, and copy tons of files over. good thing we're not keeping peoples' pictures, or i'd be here till next week waiting for file transfers!
anyway, this morning, my dad and i took my car in to get part of the door welded back on, since the hinge was coming loose and the door was staying partially open all the time. a guy from work was going to pick me up from home around noon to get the car and go back to work. however, my dad had to go to the gwinnett office for drawing/project approvals (he is an architect), and since i live about 3 miles away from that office, it was very convenient to have him pick me up instead. so after mowing the lawn and taking a second shower, i went to the gwinnett office with him. i brought my laptop so i wouldn't be so bored while waiting (it would be fun to try getting online, especially if it was protected or something)--i mean, what kind of place doesn't have wireless connections?
this place.
so i was bored again, and without headphones for music, i was going crazy. then i had an idea - why not just do some system maintenance? spybot and ad-aware were out of the picture with no internet to update them, but diskeeper looked like a good idea. my disk was quite fragmented, and after a fairly fast defrag, i restarted the system.
now here's where the shit hit the fan. after loading past the HP logo screen, my computer just stopped. no blinking cursor, no error messages. nothing. it was still on, but nothing was happening! so i tried holding the power button, and much to my surprise, it turned off immediately instead of after the usual 5 seconds. then i tried booting from a CD with no luck, so i removed the hard disk. booting from a CD worked, so i tried a different hard disk. while the new drive wouldn't load correctly due to it being a different version of windows, it still loaded past that screen... so bad disk, right?
i still held out hope. my disk wasn't acting like the typical bad disk. it spun up correctly, made no noise, and the system correctly identified it and ran scans on it that resulted in success. so, i thought "maybe i could try CHKDSKing it on another pc." so here comes the cloning device at work - the much-hated overpriced piece of crap did some good today!
i copied my drive to a blank 40GB desktop one and loaded it into a dell precision 370. as soon as it turned on, i got the message "one or more disks needs to be examined" from chkdsk. yay! it fixed a ton of mismatched files and "orphaned" files such as autoexec.bat and ntfs.sys and all the super-important ones.
then i stuck it back into the laptop and it worked! i'm glad it wasn't a hard disk failure - this one's a pretty decent one, but i wouldn't want to shell out 70+ bucks for another.
so here i am, eating a cupcake and waiting for more disks to clone... and drinking diet coke. blechhh, too bad dr pepper is sold out!

just got a new 20" monitor. it rocks, 1400x1050 res is not bad either.

well today was interesting. i didn't get any songs written yesterday due to not going to work, and today, i drove here, so i didn't think i'd get any music done. however, i was waiting for some hard disks to clone and it was going to take roughly an hour. an hour... huh! so i wrote a song in that time instead of in the car. check out the 2a03 topic for more info.
today has been crazy! when cloning a device, my biggest nightmare is nonstandard hardware, and one idiot had an ATI V3400 videocard and an audigy2 instead of a quadro 550 and integrated sound... so i had to download both drivers (which were 30+ megabytes each). why do venders pack 30000 drivers together? when i just want one newest driver, it seems like a bother.
well, it's time to go home!
Monday, August 7, 2006
well i've started what i said i would, in a new format! check out my 2a03.org post about this.
i'm calling them 1hr songs, and they're all written in however long it takes me to get to work in the morning (i ride with my dad now that mom needs the car). this will continue until late august, when i will go back to school.
this means expect at least 1 song a day except on fridays, and most of the time, 2 songs. i love my laptop.
this will hopefully help me write music faster and more efficiently than i do right now.. and hopefully will help me think of finished products instead of just demo stuff.
well i thought i might as well write stuff about my famicompo mini vol.3 entries, especially since nobody reads this anyway!
1-[X]-0 - hah, fooled everyone. this was the intent of the song, though originally it was created due to a funny MP-macro "glitch." interestingly enough, i was working on the storm eagle cover (not FX-1 as i had thought) and the vibrato on the beginning squares. after trying to get the numbers right, i put 127 as the value (instead of 5) and was thinking "ha, it will sound terrible." well to my surprise, it made.. a chord! on both channels! it sounded weird, so i thought that it would be fun to write a song around it.
the cymbal DPCM was changed at the last second (thankfully - the original resembles a tamborine more), and the square-drums on the second-and-beyond loop(s) were added at the last second. just another note, this song is fun to listen to in stereo....
turbo - it's the spiritual successor to "overdrive!" from last year. i'm disappointed with this one actually; i should have given it more time. the solo near the end isn't bad, but it could have been fleshed out a bit more in my opinion. one thing is for sure, though, nobody didn't guess that this was me.
storm eagle redux - it's storm eagle from mega man x, but on the nes. notice how the second time it loops through, some stuff is different....
terra something or other - yeah, N106. this was going to be another "don't guess it's me" song, but i used the same drums i used in turbo, and it doesn't manage to sound like other n106 artists' stuff (mostly becuase i'm against wasting 6 channels on a single echo effect, and squares are sexy). this turned out ok, but it was a pain trying to make this work within 32K (i had to make all of the beginning sounds into EN macros).
so it was a fun famicompo this year. i liked originals 10,28, and 27 (and 3, i guess, you whore chibitech, if not only because it's almost making fun of overblown japanese fanboy eroticism). as for the covers.... i really did like no. 15 (of course, i had heard it a TON before famicompo too, but that's beside the point). not a whole lot of the covers stood out for me - lots of expansion chips and OVERBLOWN SIX-CHANNEL ECHO WANKFESTS... too much for me.
---woohoo, the third CD is done... finally. if only i had a faster recorder...!
well here i am, at work, making copies of CDs due to a failure of integrity in a server in the second office where i work.
wow, talk about prepositional phrase hell.
anyway, i'm working on a new music project. it will take awhile, but it will be pretty nice when it's done. i was also thinking about how to improve writing times - maybe i could post at 2a03.org's forums a topic in which i take category suggestions from users and write a song in one day each time - this would be fun, but it would ruin any hopes of finishing my project... it would also be fun to do "kwakfest-like" entries - songs written in one hour. i've done this before, and some decent songs (society of nonconformists, sea of memories) have come out of this, but nobody wants to do it with me. maybe i could just do it myself. it would be less fun, but i could do it whenever i want!

mmm, biscuits heaping with honey
i love breakfast
anyway, working on some nice songs that should be released sometime (not soon though). also i'm going to a friend's graduation-from-boot-camp ceremony soon as well (on friday). this should be a fun week.

so i am installing a program, and it freezes.. why? system creates another MSIEXEC process while installing, so now there are two. if i end the process tree for the smaller one (usually 3MB of RAM), it continues like nothing happened. why? this is pointless!

will it work this time??
..
.. .. . .......
nope

i'm pretty bored. not that normal kind of bored where i could be doing something else. no, i'm here at work, waiting for people to get back. then i'll be installing windows xp onto 2 different machines. this isn't so bad as far as jobs go (it actually rocks), but while those things are happening, i just roam the internet. unfortunately, they have a filter system here, so most things related to games get blocked... but at least i have hardware sites to frequent (and vgmix, if anyone was wondering why i went from about 1 post a week to 10 a day).
i'll probably end up doing one of those huge "about me" posts... i would stick with xanga, but i hardly know anyone there, and for some reason, i just never cared. i'll also probably not post music here unless it's in demo form or something, since that's what my webpage is for.
